Shayla McGhee has always had a passion for writing and reading books. Since she was a little girl, she enjoyed creating her own characters and sending them on adventures in the pages of her notebooks. Taking notice of her love for writing, her elementary school teacher asked her to write a report on Phillis Wheatley and Maya Angelou. This was the first time she was introduced to black, female authors and it only increased her desire and love for writing.

Loving the fact that Phillis Wheatley was known as ‘the sable muse’, she decided to name her publishing company in her honor, and thus, Sable Inspired Books was born. The goal of Sable Inspired Books is to create imaginative, creative, and inspirational literature that highlights black characters and culture. Writing should be inspirational and reading should be fun. We aim to accomplish both in an enjoyable way.
